Best Moth prevention for stored clothes
The surprising reason moth holes appear in summer
Your favourite jumper could be at risk right now
The truth about clothes moths (it's not what most people think)
Discover Caraselle's complete range of garment covers and moth protection products designed to help keep your favourite clothes looking their best.

You finally take out your favourite top or treasured cardigan after months in storage... only to discover tiny holes that definitely weren't there before.
Sound familiar?
Every year, thousands of households across the UK discover moth damage just when they least expect it. The frustrating part is that most of this damage could have been prevented with a few simple precautions.
At Caraselle, we've been helping protect clothing and textiles for over 40 years, and one of the biggest myths we still hear is:
"The moths must have eaten my jumper."
In fact, that's not what happened at all.
This surprises most people.
Adult clothes moths don't actually eat your clothes. Instead, the female moth quietly lays tiny eggs on natural fibres such as:
Cotton
Wool
Cashmere
Silk
Alpaca
Mohair
Fur
Feathers
When those eggs hatch, the larvae begin feeding on the natural protein (keratin) found in these fibres.
Those tiny larvae—not the adult moths—are what create the familiar holes in clothing.
By the time you notice the damage, the larvae have often finished feeding and moved on.

Warmer temperatures encourage adult moths to breed, making late spring and summer the busiest time of year for clothes moth activity.
This means wardrobes that haven't been checked for several weeks become ideal places for moths to settle.
If you're packing away out of season clothing, make sure you think about moth protection.
Have you ever noticed that the jumper you wear every week stays perfect, while the expensive one at the back of the wardrobe develops holes?
There's a good reason.
Moths love undisturbed places.
Garments that remain hanging in dark wardrobes or folded in drawers for months provide the perfect environment for eggs to be laid unnoticed.
That's why expensive clothing often suffers the worst damage.
Cashmere jumpers
Merino wool
Vintage clothing
Tailored suits
Natural fibre blankets
Wedding dresses
These are often stored for long periods without being inspected.
Fortunately, preventing moth damage is much easier—and far less expensive—than replacing damaged clothing.
Moths are attracted to perspiration, food residues and natural body oils left on fabrics.
Before storing seasonal clothing, always wash or dry-clean garments first.
Plastic traps moisture.
Instead, choose quality 100% Cotton garment covers that allow fabrics to breathe while protecting them from dust and everyday exposure. For longer-term storage, our breathable cotton covers are an excellent choice.

Peva is a man-made fabric which provides an impenetrable barrier from Moths. It also protection from dust and everyday exposure.Â

Storage covers protect garments from dust.
They do not completely stop moths, we always recommend a belt and braces approach! Why leave this to chance? Always use Moth protection in Storage!
For complete protection, use an appropriate moth control product inside wardrobes or drawers alongside your storage solution.
Our Orphea and Acana ranges are specifically designed to help protect fibres throughout the storage period.
Simply opening wardrobes occasionally allows you to spot activity before it becomes a serious infestation.
Even checking every few weeks can make a significant difference.
"If I can see moths flying around, they're eating my clothes."
The adult moth isn't the problem.
It's the tiny larvae feeding quietly inside your wardrobe that cause the damage.
"My clothes are inside garment covers, so they'll be safe."
Garment covers are excellent for protecting against dust and dirt, some provide Moth protection (Peva) but they should always be combined with moth protection products for the best defence.
"I've got moth traps, so I'm protected."
Pheromone traps attract and capture male moths.
While they're excellent for monitoring activity, they don't stop female moths laying eggs.
That's why traps should be part of a wider protection strategy rather than the only solution.
Adult clothes moths don't eat fabric.
The larvae are responsible for the holes.
One female moth can lay dozens of eggs.
Cashmere and wool are favourite targets.
Damage often isn't discovered until months later.
Prevention costs far less than replacing damaged clothing.
For the best results, we recommend combining several layers of protection.
Step 1
Clean garments before storing.
Step 2
Store them inside breathable Caraselle Cotton Covers or PEVA Garment Covers.
Step 3
Use Orphea or Acana moth protection products inside wardrobes or drawers.
Step 4
Inspect wardrobes regularly throughout the warmer months.
Together, these simple steps can help protect your favourite garments season after season.
Replacing quality knitwear, tailored jackets or occasion wear can cost hundreds of pounds.
Taking a few minutes now to protect them can save both money and disappointment later.
Whether you're storing cashmere for summer or preparing winter wardrobes for the colder months ahead, the right combination of storage and effective moth protection can make all the difference.
